Fallen tanker crushes man to death in Lagos

A fallen tanker carrying diesel has crushed a man to death inside a tow truck at Otto Wharf area inward Mile 2, Lagos.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyiantolu, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), told PM NEWS on Sunday that upon arrival at the scene by the Alpha Eagle Team, a fallen tanker with unknown registration number, laden with 45,000 litres of diesel was encountered.
”Further investigation gathered revealed that the tanker on top speed driving inward Mile 2 suddenly developed a mechanical fault, lost control and fell on a packed tow truck by the road side.
“Unfortunately, a male adult lost his life while two  adults male sustained injuries. One of the injured victims (the tanker driver) had been taken to a private hospital while the other victim was extricated by the LRT and is being attended to by the Agency’s paramedics.
“Agency’s LRT alongside, LRU FIRE, LRU AMBULANCE, FRSC, LASAMBUS, LAGS FIRE and NA are responders present at the scene working better together,” he said.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the fallen tanker had been recovered to a standing position and driven into a nearby garage alongside the accidental tow truck, while the commodity was bagged and handed over to the relatives at the scene.
“The road was washed off with chemical foam by LRU and LAGS FIRE men. Operation concluded as road has been opened for vehicular activities.  LRT alongside Fire trucks and ambulance are heading back to base,” he added.
