‘I will not accept threat to Nigeria’s unity’ -PRP’s Abiola warns secessionist agitators

Unlike the other presidential candidates in Nigeria’s February 25 presidential election, Kola Abiola the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), has said he would not cuddle up with those calling for the break up of the country if he elected.

The frontlines candidates in the election – Bola Tinubu of All Progressives Congress, Atiku Abubakar of Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of Labour Party had told journalists that they will enter into dialogue with those calling for the break up of the country if they are elected.

The gave the response in response to how they will handle agitations for secession being led in the Southeast part of the country by Nnamdi Kanu led Indigenous Peoples of Biafra and the Southwest by Prof. Banji Akitoye of Ilana Yoruba.

But speaking at a presidential parley, organised by the South-West Development Stakeholders Forum (SWDSF) on Tuesday in Ibadan, Abiola said there is no basis for dialogue with the secessionist as their agitations as their actions were unconstitutional and amounted to treason.

“I will not accept any action that would threaten the unity of Nigeria if elected, but my administration would encourage them if only it would not affect the unity of Nigeria,” he said.

He added that the PRP has been around for a long time and has remained the party that believes in true federalism.
