Ebonyi has joined states that have declared public holiday to enable residents to go and pick up their permanent voters’ cards ahead of the forthcoming elections.

In a statement on Monday, the Ebonyi State Government said the two-day public holiday from Thursday to Friday was to enable all civil and public servants, including primary and secondary schools to go and collect their PVCs.

The statement was issued in Abakaliki by Mr Uchenna Orji, Commissioner for Information and State Orientation.

According to him, Governor Dave Umahi approved the two work free days in consideration of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC’s) deadline for the collection of PVC nationwide.

“This is to enable the good people of Ebonyi, who are yet to collect their PVCs to proceed to their respective Local Government PVC Collection Centres to collect theirs, bearing in mind that the last day of collection is on Sunday, Jan. 29,” Umahi said.
