Abia lawmaker suspends campaign over Prof. Ikonne’s death

Rep. Darlington Nwokocha (LP-Abia) has suspended his reelection campaign as a mark of respect for Prof. Uche Ikonne, the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, who died on Wednesday.
Nwokocha, who represents Isialangwa North/South Federal Constituency, said this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
“I received with rude shock, the devastating news of the death of our revered Prof. Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne, an illustrious son of Isialangwa and the Abia PDP governorship candidate for the 2023 general elections.
“On behalf of my family and the good people of Isiala Ngwa North/South Federal Constituency, I deeply commiserate with the immediate family, the people of Isialangwa North, and the government and people of Abia.
“Accordingly, I hereby announce the suspension of my campaign activities in honour of our great son and Elder Statesman from my constituency,” he said.
Nwokocha prayed to God in His infinite mercies to strengthen the entire family, grant all those who mourn the fortitude to bear the sad loss and for the departed, eternal rest.
