Firemen put out inferno at Balogun Market on Broad Street, Lagos Island.

Fire gutted a building at the popular Balogun market on Broad Street, Lagos Island, on Thursday morning.

Reports say that traders were not in the building when the inferno started. Due to the two-day public holiday designated for the collection of the Permanent Voters Card (PVC), there was little to no activity.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), no casualties were reported at the market fire.

Its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stated that the fire began at about 1.33 a.m. on Thursday and razed some shops in Balogun market.

“The agency’s response team, alongside two Lagos State Fire Service trucks, and the police are currently at the incident working together to subdue the inferno,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
