Housewife lands in Kirikiri Prison for allegedly stabbing neighbour with bottle

The Police at the Satellite Division of the Lagos State Police Command, Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria have arrested a housewife and mother of three, Victoria Shadrack, 25, and charged her before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court, Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos for allegedly breaking a bottle and using it to stab a co-tenant, Hope Oluchi.

The defendant from Akwa-Ibom State was charged before the Court on a one-count charge of a stabbing, occasioning bodily harm.

Police alleged that trouble started between the tenants when the complainant saw the defendant’s plate within their compound and picked up the plate and took it to the complainant as a co-tenant.

Police further alleged that instead of the defendant showing appreciation for the plate returned to her by the complainant, she allegedly told the complainant that She did not send her to bring the plate to her.

The defendant’s comment, according to the Police angered the complainant who replied to her sarcastically leading to an altercation between them which soon degenerated into a fight during which the defendant allegedly picked up a bottle, broke it and used it to stab the complainant on her left shoulder with blood gushing out profusely.

Following the stabbing, concerned residents in the area held the defendant down who had attempted to escape and sent a distress call to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Satellite Division, Lagos who swiftly despatched his men led by Inspector Otoide Courage to the scene to arrest the defendant and restore order.

The Police team arrested the defendant and also took the victim to the hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.

Police Prosecuting Counsel, Adega Tyonyiman told the Court in the charge Marked Q/03/202$ that the defendant committed the offence at 9, Ibiloye Street, New Site, Ijegun, Satellite town, Lagos.

Tyonyiman informed the Court that the complainant saw a plate belonging to the defendant within their compound and decided to take the plate to the defendant as a co-tenant only for the defendant to tell the complainant that she didn’t send her to bring the plate to her.

Tyonyiman said that the minor issue degenerated into a fight during which the defendant went for a bottle, broke it and stabbed the complainant on her shoulder for no justifiable reasons, adding that the defendant inflicted severe injury on the complainant leading to her being admitted at a hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.

He said the offence, the defendant committed was contrary to and punishable under session 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and Magistrate, O.R Iseche granted her N150,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Iseche adjourned the case till 20 February 2023 for mention and ordered that the defendant be detained at the Kirikiri correctional facility till she perfected the bail conditions.
