An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting at the Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court, Oyingbo, Lagos has sentenced two fraudsters to one-year imprisonment each for fraudulently obtaining the sum of N115,000 from complainant Hunyingan Pentho Ifeoluwa under false pretence through Instagram transactions.

The convicts, Oshodi Tunde Noah,26, and Yusuf Sadiq Olarewaju, 24, were jailed by Magistrate, T.A Abayomi after the convicts pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence and stealing preferred against them by the Police at the Force Intelligence Bureau, Force Head Quarters, Annex, Lagos and the facts of the case presented before the Court by the Police Counsel, Amedu Adoga.

Police alleged that the journey to jail started for the convicts on 15 January 2023 at Igboefun area of Lekki, Lagos when the convicts collected the sum of N115,000 from the complainant with the promise to sell and deliver 1.5 horse power air conditioner to her through Instagram transaction within 24 hours.

Police alleged that after the convicts collected the money from the complainant, they failed to supply the air conditioner to the complainant and instead they converted the money to their use.

When the complainant waited for days without hearing from the convicts about the air conditioner and their phone not going through, she reported the matter at the Force Headquarters, Annex, Lagos and crack detectives tracked the convicts to a hideout in Lagos and arrested them.

When the defendants were arraigned, they pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.

Magistrate, T.A. Abayomi subsequently sentenced them to one-year imprisonment each without an option of a fine.
