Edo: Becky Igiebor petitions IGP over cyber bullying by Canada-based woman

A Benin City, Edo State-based woman, Becky Igiebor, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, over alleged cyber-bullying, internet-stalking, false information, defamation and threat to life by one Racheal Eboni Osazee Iyonmana, who lives in Canada.

Becky Igiebor, through her Counsel, Barrister Kelly Agbonlahor of Agbonlahor Law Firm, in the petition, alleged that the said Iyonmana engaged in uncontrolled and continuous cyber-stalking where she displayed different pictures of the victim and her family members on Facebook and other social media platforms, with damaging and defamatory statements.

Barrister Agbonlahor described the action as an international crime that needs the immediate intervention and investigation of the Nigeria Police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police (lGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has directed men of the International IP Crime Investigators – National Cybercrime Central Bureau, Abuja, to commence investigation into the petition.

Baba directed the Bureau to link up with relevant police and other security authorities in Canada to investigate the suspect and bring her to justice if found culpable.

It was reliably gathered that the investigators have obtained statement and other relevant documents from Facebook, YouTube and other social media platforms for evidence.

They have reportedly linked up with other investigators in Ottawa, Canada, to further their investigation.
