Two children aged 8 and 10 who disappeared from an address on Eglinton Road in Woolwich, London around 10 pm on Tuesday have been found on the street in their pyjamas as temperatures hit -2C.

According to a local media report, a desperate search began with multiple units combing South East London for the
children after Police were called to report that a 10-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy had gone missing.

In addition, local Facebook groups were filled with concerned posts asking members of the public if they had seen the children.

MyLondon quoted a woman as writing: “Hug your babies tight tonight. There are two missing children on the Eglinton Road/Herbert Road area. A 10-year-old girl and eight-year-old boy. I sprinted round the entire Barnfield estate looking for them to no avail. The police are with the family now. Please keep an eye out if you live in the area.”

According to the news medium, the girl was reportedly wearing pink pyjamas, while the boy was in ‘skeleton’ pyjamas. A local taxi rank owner even said she had instructed her drivers to keep a lookout for the missing pair.

The frantic search unfolded as London froze with weather charts showing the temperature at the time was -2C, later hitting -6C in the early hours of the morning.

The search went on for about 40 minutes before the children were found at around 10.40 pm freezing in their pyjamas.

A member of the public was said to have bumped into the pair on Well Hall Road in Eltham and alerted the police.

“Appropriate enquiries will follow to establish further details about what happened,” a Metropolitan Police spokesperson was quoted to have said.
