The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has ordered the immediate suspension of its campaign activities in the state due to the current scarcity of fuel and new naira notes.

Mr Ade Adetimehin, the party’s state chairman, explained the decision in a statement issued on Wednesday.

“Therefore, the party has directed chairmen, and Directors-General at all levels, within the chapter, to suspend rallies, in sympathy with our people,” Adetimehin said.

The chairman expressed regret that Nigeria is experiencing an unusual shortage of petrol and scarcity of new naira notes.

This, according to him, is because it’s leading up to “an all-important general election”.

He argued that the people of the state had the right to be angry and to express their feelings about the unfortunate development, but he urged them to do so as “patriots who believed in a better tomorrow.”

“As a party, we identify with our people during this unpleasant period. We agree they are exercising their rights, but we urge them to do so with measures of restraint.

“Our strong belief is that this time shall fade soon,” he added.

He praised the efforts of Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu’s administration to alleviate the harsh situation and ensure the security of state residents.

Adetimehin urged chieftains and party members to be more understanding and identify with those in their various communities in order to reduce tensions.
