Hundreds of Labour party members in Ewekoro Local Government of Ogun have decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to support the ambition of Olumide Aderinokun, the party’s candidate for the state’s central senatorial zone in the February 25 election.

The LP members were received by Aderinokun during his campaign tour of the Local Government.

The defected LP members who were led by the vice-chairman of the executive of the party in the local government, Fayoyin Kayode said they are committed to support the senatorial ambition of Aderinokun.

“We will be working for the emergence of Chief Olumide Aderinokun of the PDP as our next Senator. We have at least 200 members per Ward that will deliver in Ewekoro.

“We are happy about the future with Aderinokun and he stands out as a man with integrity amongst his rivals. I heard about him recently and I was impressed by his contributions so far.”

Also, the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) led by Nollywood star, Segun Ogungbe and Kayode Akindina (Paragon) have also endorsed Aderinokun for the Senatorial seat in Ogun Central.

Ogungbe said: “We are actors, but our influence covers every corner of Ogun Central and we are ready to vote Olumide Aderinokun because of his good track record of philanthropy.

“Aderinokun deserves to succeed Senator Ibikunle Amosun and we are happy our leader has thrown his weight behind him as well.”

Meanwhile, Aderinokun has assured that he will revisit abandoned Ewekoro International Airport and ensure the project comes to reality if he is elected.

The international Cargo airport which proposed to be located in Ewekoro local government area of Ogun State was initiated by former governor and incumbent Senator for Ogun Central, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

In 2021, the Senate Committee led by Senator Smart Adeyemi visited proposed site in Wasinmi and stated that the project has been included in the budget of the Federal Government.

Aderionkun stated that the economic benefit of the project overweighs any primordial or political interest as the airport would relieve the Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Aderinokun faulted Governor Abiodun’s APC government for allegedly discriminating the people of Ogun Central by neglecting the Ewekoro airport for an agro-cargo airport in Illisan.

He spoke while commissioning his 32nd borehole project in Ogun Central Senatorial District at Lafenwa Market in Abeokuta North Local Government Area.
“Our children and our Senatorial District would have been an envy for other districts if Dapo Abiodun’s APC government took Senator Amosun’s initiative for an airport in Ewekoro.

“We have multi-billion dollars companies in this Senatorial District and citing an edifice like an international airport in Ogun Central would boost all areas of our socio-economic including the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

“I have studied the bills passed by Senators who have represented Ogun Central in the upper chamber of the National Assembly and I will ensure the Ewekoro airport sees the light of the day.”

He also enjoined the people of Ogun Central to vote for PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar as the next President of Nigeria and other candidates of the party.
