Zamfara Assembly lauded for passing anti-thuggery agency bill

The Pan-African Leadership Transparent Centre on Friday commended the Zamfara House of Assembly for passing a bill for the establishment of the State Anti-thuggery Agency.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Gov. Bello Matawalle established the Anti-thuggery Standing Committee under a retired Military Officer, Bello Bakyasuwa to fight thuggery, drug abuse and other related criminal offences.

During its plenary on Thursday, the state assembly passed the Anti-thuggery Agency Bill and forwarded it to Matawalle for his assent.

The Country Coordinator of the NGO, Mr Volentine Agba, made the commendation while presenting Security Leadership Award to Bakyasuwa in Gusau.

Agba said the assembly deserved commendation for passing the bill, adding, “if signed into law would boost the capacity of the agency in maintaining peace and order in the state.”

He said that the centre was working to ensure good governance and accountability, saying, “we monitor activities of Nigeria in this direction.”
