Plan your movement: New routes for Tinubu's roadshow in Lagos, many roads to be shut

The Lagos State Government on Monday released new routes where the APC’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will embark on a roadshow from the Airport to Teslim Balogun Stadium on Tuesday.

The APC will hold its grand finale rally for Tinubu at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Tuesday. He is expected to embark on a road show in a motorcade from airport to the stadium.

Earlier travel advisory issued by the General Manager, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Bolaji Oreagba on Sunday showed that roads such as Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Maryland, Ikorodu Road (Idi-Iroko, Anthony, Obanikoro, Onipanu, Fadeyi), Jibowu, Empire, Moshalashi, Ojuelegba, Barracks to Stadium will be affected.

But a new travel advisory released by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, discarded the earlier routes and released new routes the motorcade will pass through.

According to the travel advisory, Tinubu, APC chieftains and supporters will proceed on the road show from the Murtala Muhammed Airport through Agege Motor Road (PWD) to Sogunle to Alasia to link Ladipo to Bolade to Oshodi Underpass to link Cappa to Challenge to Olorunsogo to link Ojuwoye to Olosha-àIdi-Oro to Moshalasi) to Ojuelegbato Barrack to link Teslim Balogun Stadium (TBS), Surulere.

“Lagosians are advised to plan their journeys as the Motorcade Rally commences from 10.00am to 12.30pm from Murtala Muhammed Airport 2 (MMA2) to Teslim Balogun Stadium (TBS), Surulere via Agege Motor Road to Funsho Williams Avenue (Old Western Avenue),” said Oladeinde.

On the alternative routes, the government said motorists that are Apapa-Oshodi bound should make use of Airport Toll Plaza through International Airport Road to Toyota to connect their desired destinations or from airport to Bolade to Oyetayo Street (by Oshodi-Isolo Local Govt. Secretariat) to Ewenla/or Boladale and continue their journeys.

Other routes are:

MOTORISTS FROM IKEJA ALONG IN-BOUND IKORODU ROAD SHOULD MAKE USE OF;

  1. Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way-Maryland-Ikorodu road-to connect their desired destinations.

MOTORISTS FROM MUSHIN IN-BOUND IKORODU ROAD SHOULD MAKE USE OF;

  1.  Ilupeju bypass-Town Planning Way-Ikorodu road; Or Ilupeju bypass-Coker road-Palmgrove Estate/or Obanikoro/or Onipanu-Ikorodu road.

“During the procession from MMA2 to Stadium via Sogunle, Mushin on Agege Motor Road and Ojuelegba, traffic will be restricted and diverted to Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way.

“Motorists on this route are advised to make use of Ikorodu road or Apapa Oshodi Expressway as earlier mentioned.

“Traffic on Funsho Williams Avenue (Old Western Avenue) inwards Lagos Island, Costain, Ijora, and Apapa would be diverted to the Main Carriageway.

“Motorists moving to Surulere axis should make use of Ojuelegba-Lawanson-Itire road to connect different parts of Surulere.

“Traffic from Eko Bridge/Costain inwards Ojuelegba/Mushin/Ikorodu road on Funsho Williams Avenue (Old Western Avenue) will be diverted at Alaka to Stadium Bridge on the Main Carriage Way,” Oladeinde said.

 He added that Costain to IponriàIponri Estate to Bode Thomas, and Costain Abebe Village (Nigeria Breweries) to Eric Moore would be available for motorists heading to Surulere Areas.

In addition, the commissioner stated that vehicular traffic on Alhaji Masha Road to Adelabu-Shitta Roundabout to Akerele, Barracks to Stadium on the Service Lane as well as Alaka to Stadium on the Service Lane would be totally restricted for safety and security, as only human traffic and special purpose vehicles would be allowed.

“Vehicles conveying party members and others with accredited stickers for the rally would be provided free parking space with access to the National Stadium only via Alaka.

“Motorists coming from Ojuelegba/Mushin/Palmgrove on Funsho Williams Avenue (Old Western Avenue) will access the National Stadium via U-turn at Alaka, while those from Surulere will access the Stadium via Bode Thomas/Iponri/Costain to connect Alaka.

He noted that only accredited vehicles, security, emergency and essential service vehicles would be provided privileged access at the diversion points.

“Directional signs, other traffic management devices, Traffic Management and Security Personnel would be available to assist and guide Motorists and Pedestrians both on the dedicated route and alternative roads. We humbly seek the support and cooperation of all road users, and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” he added.
