Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of APC won in Rivers State in the presidential election conducted across Nigeria on 25 February.

According to results of the election for Rivers announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Tinubu scored 231,591 votes to beat the candidate of Labour Party who came second in the election in the state.

Obi scored 175,071, while Atiku Abubakar, the president candidate of Wike’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar came third with 88,468 votes.

However, an analysis of the result showed that Tinubu garnered a substantial number of his votes from Obio-Akpor Local Government, the council where Governor Wike hails from.

Wike was also a former chairman of the local government.

According to the result, Tinubu got 80,239 votes -over a third of the of the votes he got from the election from Obio-Akpor Local Government, according to result announced by Professor Charles Teddy Adias, the Collation Officer for Rivers.

Related News

On the contrary, Atiku, the presidential candidate of PDP scored paltry 368 votes in the local government.

Analysts said the development confirmed speculations that Governor Wike supported Tinubu in the election.
