Chukwudi Ogbonna, the candidate of Accord political party Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni constituency 2, of Rivers State House of Assembly was kidnapped last night in Port Harcourt by yet to be identified gunmen.
One of the brothers of the House of Assembly election candidate, Ife-akachukwu Nwakiri said he was abducted at about 8.30pm around the Rumuigbo axis of Obio-Akpor local government area, a suburb of Port Harcourt on Monday.
Nwakiri said he believed the abduction was politically motivated.
He called for the unconditional release of Ogbonna, adding that the matter has been reported to the Police.
Nwachukwu Justice Osita, the Chairman of Accord for Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni, ONELGA area of Rivers also confirmed the abduction of the House of Assembly election candidate to newsmen.
He appealed to security agencies in the state to ensure he was released unharmed ahead of the assembly election slated for next Saturday.
However, the Rivers State Police Command had not reacted to the kidnap the Accord candidate at the time of filing this report.
