The Coalition for Youth in Oyo State has declared support for the re-election bid of Gov. Seyi Makinde in the upcoming March 18 Governorship election.
The Speaker of the Coalition, Mr Olajuwon Subair while addressing newsmen in Ibadan on Thursday, said the coalition, comprising of various organisations in Oyo state endorsed Makinde for a second term in office.
He said the governor had done excellently well to warrant the endorsement, saying there was a need to cheer the government on and give it full support.
Subair noted that the coalition had been collaborating with the government to ensure free and fair elections devoid of thuggery and disturbance in the state.
“We are supporting the current government and this coalition represents the interest of all the youths and young people in Oyo state in which we have engaged and we will continue to consult with others that are not present here today,” Subair said.
The speaker said: “There is no gainsaying the fact that as young people, we are the future of this state, and we are eager to contribute to its development.
“However, we cannot do this alone. We need the support and backing of the government to achieve our goals.
“Over the years, youth organisations have been working tirelessly to make a positive impact in their communities through different platforms.
“All youth organisations ranging from young lawmakers, religion, traditional groups, education, and political groups, have with their ideologies and selfless service provided solutions to the state’s challenges and promoted development in all sectors,” he said.
Subair said according to INEC’s reports on the 2019 elections, it was recorded that youths are the most registered voters in Nigeria, and are said to determine the leadership of Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Oyo State Chairman, of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Abd-Quadri Abdsalam, said the coalition consisted of over 79 independent youth organisations and over 300 voluntary youth organisations.
Abdsalam said the goal of the coalition was to collaborate with the government to ensure credible, peaceful and free and fair elections through a series of projects from the youth bodies.
