Nollywood actress, Chioma Akpotha: claimed she was attacked by thugs shortly after she arrived at her polling unit to vote in Saturday's governorship and state houses of assembly elections in Lekki area of Lagos.

Nollywood actress, Chioma Akpotha claimed she was attacked by thugs shortly after she arrived at her polling unit to vote in Saturday’s governorship and state houses of assembly elections in Lekki area of Lagos.

Akpotha, looking agitated with terror written all over her face and panting for breath in the video she posted on Instagram narrated how thugs wielding knives, bottles and guns attacked her on Saturday 18 March as soon as she brought out her phone to record the electioneering process live at her polling unit.

Akpotha who was sitting in the backseat of a moving Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) with another lady, gave a live-streamed narration of the events that just occurred, supposedly a short distance from Victoria Garden City (VGC), Ajah.

Narrating her ordeal in the vehicle, Akpotha lamented her experience and how, as she was talking, voting was not going on at the polling unit, as voters were afraid to go inside and exercise their voting rights.

The actress, however, escaped unhurt in her vehicle which was damaged by the thugs. She said the side-mirror and other parts of her car were damaged as she fled away from them.

“They destroyed my side mirrors, hit my car. I don’t even know the extent of the damage to the car, but I just ran out for my life because they were bringing out knives; they wanted to stab me. Thank God I came with some people to help me,” she says.

The video shows her vehicle pulling up to a van with the inscription ‘OP MESA’ parked by the roadside manned by uniformed military officers.

After reporting the situation to them, the officers attempt to calm her down, assuring her that troops had been deployed to get the situation under the control.

The actress, however, tells her followers that she would not be returning to complete the exercise.
