JUST IN: Chimaroke Nnamani loses Enugu East Senatorial seat

Former Enugu State Governor, Chimaroke Nnamani has lost the Enugu East Senatorial election to the Labour Party’s candidate, Kelvin Ugwu.

Ugwu polled 69,136 votes to beat Nnamani of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 48,701 votes.

The Returning Officer for the election, Joachim Omeje, declared Ugwu winner of the election having satisfied the provision of the law.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s candidate, Adaku Ogbu-Aguocha, scored 8,548 votes to come third.

The Enugu Senatorial District election could not hold on 25 February, 2023 because of the assassination of the former Labour Party’s candidate, Oyibo Chukwu.

Chukwu was killed and burnt inside his campaign vehicle few days to the election, which led the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the election.

Ugwu was used to replace the deceased Chukwu by Labour Party. He is the brother of the deceased.
