Alia polled 473,933 votes to defeat Titus Uba, the candidate of the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP), who polled 223,913 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the governorship election in Benue State.

Alia polled 473,933 votes to defeat Titus Uba, the candidate of the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP), who polled 223,913 votes.

Herman Hembe of the Labour Party (LP) scored 41,881 votes to come third.

Alia, born 14 May, 1966, is a Nigerian catholic priest and politician from Mbangur, Mbadede in Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State.

Alia became a famous priest in Nigeria following his miraculous power of healing.

He started serving God at the Cathedral Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Makurdi, in Benue state. From there, Fr Alia started his healing mass with a small congregation which usually takes place every Saturday.
