Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has imposed a dawn to dusk curfew on the state on Monday after the candidate of opposition New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Abba Yusuf, was declared the winner of last Saturday’s Kano governorship election.
Yusuf beat the incumbent Deputy Governor of the state and candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Yusuf Gawuna, to win the election.
NNPP also won most of the seats in the state house of assembly election.
But the curfew followed tension generated from the collation of results of the governorship and state Assembly elections.
Kano Commissioner for Information and internal affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, in a statement on Monday said the curfew was imposed to prevent hoodlums from taking advantage of the already tensed situation to cause chaos.
The commissioner called on people in the state to remain indoors as security agents would not spare anyone or group bent on causing trouble.
