JUST IN: APC's Uba Sani wins Kaduna governorship election

Uba Sani, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of last Saturday’s governorship election in Kaduna State by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The APC candidate, a Senator, polled a total of 730,002 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Isa Ashiru of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who garnered 719,196 votes in the election, according to results declared by the Returning Officer, Professor Lawal Suleiman Bilbis.

“Senator Uba Sani having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest valid votes cast is hereby returned and elected,” the Returning Officer said while declaring result of the election.

The candidate of Labour Party, Jonathan Asake came third in the election with just 58,283 votes, while Suleiman Hunkuyi of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) scored 21,405 votes.

The PDP candidate won in 13 of the 23 local government areas of the state, according to results announced by INEC.

The local government areas won by the PDP candidate are Kaura, Sanga, Kajuru, Makarfi, Jaba, Jema’a, Zangon Kataf, Soba, Chikun, Kagarko, Lere, Kachia and Kudan local government areas.

On the other hand, the APC candidate won in 10 local government areas.

The local government areas are Giwa, Ikara, Kauru, Sabon Gari, Kubau, Zaria, Kaduna North, Kaduna South and Igabi and Birnin-Gwari local government areas.
