The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday declared Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the governorship election held in Enugu on 18 March.
The collation of some of the results was initially suspended by INEC after heated tension generated during collation.
But on Wednesday, INEC’s Returning Officer for Enugu, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo-Iwe, Vice Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, declared Mbah winner of the election having scored majority of the votes and satisfied the retirement of the law.
Mbah polled 160,895 votes to emerge winner of the election, while his closest rival, Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party (LP), who scored 157,552 votes to come third.
Dr Frank Nweke of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) scored 17,983 votes to come third while Chief Uchenna Nnaji of All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 14,575 to emerge fourth.
According to the Returning Officer, “That Mbah Peter Ndubuisi of Peoples Democratic Party, having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
