JUST IN: INEC declares Labour Party's Alex Otti winner of Abia governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Alex Otti of the Labour Party winner of the governorship election in Abia State.

INEC had earlier suspended collation of the March 18 governorship election in the State after lots of controversies.

But the result of the only remaining Local Government was announced by INEC on Wednesday.

INEC’s returning officer, Prof. Nnenna Nnannaya-Oti declared Otti winner having polled the majority votes and satisfied the provisions of the electoral act.

Otti polled 175,467 votes to defeat Okey Ahiwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 88,529 votes to come second.

Enyinnaya Nwafor of the Young Peoples Party (YPP) came third, scoring 28,972 votes, while Ikechi Emenike of the All Progressives Congress (APC), came fourth with 24,091 votes.

According to the INEC’s Returning Officer, Nnannaya-Oti, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, “That Otti Alex Chioma of Labour Party having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner of the election.”
