Residents in Enugu have congratulated Dr Peter Mbah of the PDP on his emergence as the state’s governor-elect after a rigorous electoral exercise.

They also charged him to address and tackle infrastructure decay in the state after resuming duty to alleviate their plight.

Some of them who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday, said the state had been eight years backward and underdeveloped which they believed Mbah would transform.

They decried the deplorable state of schools, hospitals and roads in the state capital as well as the water scarcity, urging him to resort to urgent action over them.

Mr Peter Okoye tasked Mbah, as a matter of urgency, to address the issue of perennial water scarcity in Enugu, stressing that many of them spent a lot of money treating typhoid on monthly basis due to lack of access to drinking water.

According to him, the residents spend huge sums of money to buy water from tanker drivers before they could get water.

“He should also ensure that pension and gratuity are paid to retirees and improve the workers’ welfare,” she added.

Mr Jerry Ndubusi, while congratulating Mbah on his success at the polls, charged him with the construction and rehabilitation of Enugu road, stressing that many roads, in the state capital were an eyesore.

“We don’t want to patch roads again but reconstruct them”, adding that many of the roads at Abakpa, Ologo, Maryland and other areas of the state were in very pitiable situation.

He also advised the governor-elect not to abandon his manifesto but work with it, to bring more development to the state.
