The death toll in Friday’s massive Tornado that hit US State of Mississippi has climbed to 26 with several property destroyed.
Dozens more are hurt after powerful storms and at least one tornado pummeled the southern United States Friday night, CNN reports.
The confirmed tornado touched down in Mississippi, where the damage and death toll have been most severe. Search-and-rescue teams are spread across the state.
More than 28,000 homes and businesses in Mississippi and Alabama are still without power, according to PowerOutage.us. Tens of thousands more were without service until utility crews started making repairs.
The greater storm system is headed east, with the threat of damaging winds and isolated tornadoes as it pushes off the East Coast Saturday evening.
US President, Joe Biden in a tweet said he and his wife, Jill were praying for those who lost their loves ones in the devastating tornadoes.
“Jill and I are praying for those who have lost loved ones in the devastating tornadoes in Mississippi and those whose loved ones are missing. I spoke with @tatereeves, @SenatorWicker, @SenHydeSmith, and @BennieGThompson to express my condolences and offer full federal support.
“I also spoke to @FEMA_Deanne, who has already deployed emergency response personnel and resources to support search-and-rescue and assess the damage.
“We will do everything we can to help. We will work together to deliver the support you need to recover, for as long as it takes,” Biden tweeted.
