By Fidelia Ukaegbu

Rok Studios’ latest film, Iman, is an emotional drama that shines a light on the struggles of young girls in Eastern Nigeria who dream of getting an education. Streaming now on DSTV, Rok TV, and Iroko TV, the film explores themes of family, love, resilience, and the determination to break societal barriers.

Taking center stage is the incredibly talented teen actress Uchechi Treasure Okonkwo, affectionately known as Adakirikiri by her fans. She brings Iman to life, a young girl whose father believes a daughter is nothing more than a burden and sees no reason for her to be educated. Defying his wishes, Iman sneaks off to school, standing by the window to learn in secret, only to face harsh beatings from her father daily. When he finally decides to marry her off to a wealthy man’s son, Iman finds an unexpected ally in his older sister, someone who has endured the same struggles and serves as her mentor.

At the helm of this gripping film is director John Jaycee, known for his growing portfolio of compelling stories, with four films under his belt and contributions to over 30 scripts. Iman is also a co-production with Nollywood star Uzee Usman, who not only played a key role in making the film happen but also takes on the powerful role of Iman’s father, delivering a standout performance.

The movie boasts an impressive cast, including Ikenna Azubuike, Stanley Igboanugo, Jennifer Martins, Ransome Nuhu, Abdul U. Zada, and Martins Onyebuchi, ensuring a drama packed with emotion and depth.

Uchechi, represented by Boldline Entertainment, is no stranger to the spotlight. She has captivated audiences in productions like One in a Million, Love with a Taint, Pandora’s Box, Fate of My Home, and Love’s Lies. She also starred in The Good Doctor (2021) alongside Jackie Appiah and Uzee Usman, as well as Dry Leaves, Lingering Pain, and. Her career took off at just 10 years old, when she played a major role in Longinus Anokwute’s (Chief Imo) African Magic mini-comedy series Ukwu Na Uka Ojionu, earning her the Best Child Actor Award.

Uzee Usman, an acclaimed actor in his own right, has earned multiple awards, including the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award for Best Actor and the 2016 African Hollywood Award for Best Producer. With his vast experience and captivating performances, his presence in Iman adds another layer of brilliance to the film.
