Chiamaka Ugoo

Nollywood filmmaker and philanthropist, Chiamaka Ugoo knows her onion when it comes to movie making and content creation but the movie star also has a huge role in women’s advocacy.

The writer and a beautiful mother of one in this interview opened up about her experience in the Nigerian movie industry, challenges, and her plans for the future about young girl advocacy.

Can you tell us about yourself?

My name is Chiamaka Ugoo, I’m a mother, partner, filmmaker, young women advocate, philanthropist, a writer and equally a content creator. I’m from Amawbia, in Awka south LGA of Anambra state and I’m the first of 6 children, did my higher education in IMT Enugu where I studied Public Administration.

How challenging is it to be a mother, film maker, an advocate, philanthropist and writer all together?

It has not been easy combining all together, but above everything, my major role is being a wonderful mother to my beautiful daughter and a great woman to my partner.

Being an advocate for young women, I’ll say it is something that comes naturally, right from my teenage years, I’ve a lot of young girls who looked up to me and love me, they would always come to me and say I like you so much and I’ll really like to be like you when I grow up, that inspires me alot and pushes me to do great in life knowing I’ve somany young women that looks up to me that I wouldn’t want to disappoint.

What motivated you to go into filmmaking and what’s your future plan and what makes you special from others?

I have always wanted to be an actress but as a young girl, I think I was 18years the first time I tried going into movies, so many bad eggs in that industry, I think because the Nigerian movie industry is where no one needs no qualifications to enter, it gave room for si many anyhow people, it’s home for all. As a young girl, some of these low lives in the industry would see me and say oh you’re so beautiful and you can make it in the movie industry, at the end they’ll start looking for something else, telling me how they made Omotola, made Genevieve and can make me overnight… if I sleep with them while looking at the person claiming to have made all these stars, he smells of suffering and hunger, then you wonder if he made all these people but couldn’t make himself. So many of them there looking for young women to devour, and having big dreams from an early age, I said when I’m grown and start making money, I’ll start producing my own movies so I can help other young talented girls who want to be actresses to excel without one dead low life trying to take advantage of her body, many bad eggs, low lives full the industry.

In terms of Content Creation, can you tell us what makes you different from other creators?

I have my own unique way which I believe sets me on a high standard, I pass a message to young people through my content, especially young women. My contents are messages filled with some touch of humour and so far people are reacting so greatly to my content and I know it can only get greater.

What are your hobbies?

I’m an indoor person, I’m boring to be around because I can stay in my room for weeks without going out, as long as I’m seeing my baby’s smiles, having her disturb me and on the phone with my partner I’m good. I think those two humans are my hobbies if I can say that…(Laughs).

Do you have mentors and any other thing you want to tell us?

Funny enough, I’ve no role model, my only motivation is looking at where I was coming from and motivating myself I’ve to be so great in this life, my baby will always say to me, mummy I’m so proud you’re my mother, that’s my biggest motivation to not ever fail her.
It’s not easy making it in the entertainment industry in Nigeria, so many bad people ready to scam you, the first I came, the low lives men wanted to take advantage of me, I ran because I couldn’t sell my body to low lives, years later I’m now blessed financially, I came back, they can’t ask for sex again, because how would you ask for sex from a woman obviously much richer than you, now they all want to extort money from you, it’s not easy at all. But we keep pushing and things are getting greater with each passing.
