The Police in Benue on Monday arraigned three persons before a Makurdi Upper Area Court for alleged criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, and terrorism.

They are Terhide Imo, a.k.a. Yellow, Orvendega Orhena, and Aondongu Imo, all of Tse-Tyulen village of Guma local government area (LGA) of Benue state.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp Rachael Mchiave, told the court that the case was transferred from Divisional Police Headquarters, Daudu, Guma LGA, to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Makurdi, via letter No. AR:3100/BNS/DA/VOL.2/75, dated 21st March.

Mchiave said one Terkura China of Tse-Tyulen village, Guma LGA, Benue State, reported the case on 6th March at the Daudu Police Station.

The prosecutor said on 5th March, some hoodlums armed with sticks, burnt bricks, and other dangerous weapons, invaded his residence and mercilessly beat up his father, China Nor, aged 82 years with sticks and smash his head with burnt bricks resulting in his death.

She said during the Police investigation Terhide Imo, Orvendega Orhena and Aondongu Imo were arrested.

The Prosecutor further said the act contravened Section 4(2) of the Abduction, Hostage Taking, Kidnapping, Secret Cult and similar Activities Prohibition Laws of Benue State 2017, Section 97 and 222 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue State 2004.

Mchiave said an investigation into the matter is still ongoing and requested additional time to complete it.

However, when the case came up for mention no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction.

The judge, Mrs. Dooshima Ikpambese, remanded all the accused at the Federal Maximum Correctional Centre, Makurdi, and adjourned the case to 4th May for further mention.
