Stop parading yourself as PDP's National Chairman: Court restrains Ayu

Ayu 4

Dr. Iyorchia Ayu

A High Court in Benue State on Monday granted a restraining order stopping Dr. Iyorchia Ayu from parading himself as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ayu was suspended from his ward in Benue on Sunday from the party over alleged anti-party activities.

But he claimed on Monday that he is still the national chairman of PDP and that the ward has no power to suspend him from being chairman of the party in line with the constitution.

A member of the PDP from Benue, Terhide Utaan, who is the plaintiff before Justice W. I Kpochi, obtained the order restraining Ayu from parading himself as national chairman of the party.

The plaintiff had sought an order of interim injunction restraining Ayu from parading himself as the National Chairman of the PDP, having lost his membership of the party, pending the hearing ad determination of the motion on notice already filed.

According to Justice Kpochi, “upon hearing Mr. M.T. Assoh of Learned Counsel ably moved the application and upon a dispassionate consideration of the facts placed before me in the pool of the affidavit evidence, and again, upon the consideration of the issues distilled in the written address by M.T. Assoh, it is my candid view that this is a proper case to grant the interim injunction as craved.

“Consequently, this application is hereby granted in terms of the reliefs captured in the motion papers as herein before reproduced. It is so ordered.”

The judge adjourned the case to 17 April, 2023 for hearing.
