U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to leave Ghana for Tanzania after meeting with the country’s female entrepreneurs on Wednesday.

Her final engagement in Accra is to talk about economic empowerment and leadership before continuing her week-long African tour.

Harris is the latest US government official to visit African nations, following Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, as Washington seeks to counterbalance increasing Chinese and Russian influence on the continent.

Since arriving in Ghana on Sunday, Harris has met President Nana Akufo-Addo, attended a state banquet, and delivered an address to young people about innovation and women’s empowerment.

In addition, she toured a “slave castle” that served as the final stop for thousands of Africans sold into the transatlantic slave trade.

She plans to meet Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and complete other obligations on Thursday.

Thereafter, she will fly to Zambia on Friday to visit President Hakainde Hichilema and attend other events. She is scheduled to depart Zambia on Saturday and return to the United States on Sunday.
