A Chinese national, Mr Frank Geng-Quangrong, 47, told the Kano High Court on Thursday that he unintentionally stabbed his Nigerian girlfriend, Ummukulsum Sani, 22, to death.
The defendant, who lives in Kano’s Railway Quarters, is on trial for culpable homicide.
Under cross-examination by the prosecution, Frank told the court that a lot happened on that fateful day.
Frank explained that he arrived in Nigeria in 2019 to work as a marketing and sales manager at BBY Textile Company in Kano.
“I was paid N1.5 million monthly and I also do some other side businesses. On that fateful day, Ummukulsum pushed me onto the bed. I stabbed her without the intention to kill her.
“I went out of the room through the window since the door was locked from outside and wanted to take Ummukulsum to the hospital but then, the police arrived and arrested me,” Frank said
Mr. Muhammad Dan’azumi, the defence counsel, presented a urologist, Dr. Abdullahi Abubakar, as the defence’s second witness (DW2).
Earlier, Frank told the court that Ummukulsum had injured him on his genitals.
Abubakar testified in court that he has been a urologist for over 30 years and has taught at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for 13 years.
“I retired in 2018 but am still active in practice. In the human body, the testicle is more sensitive because it has sensory nerves when it is pulled, fright, fights and flight will occur and cause inflammation problems and may cause erectile dysfunction and urinary problems.
“As a result, the blood pressure will fall, there will be a low level of oxygen in the brain and the patient may faint or get shocked so in other to survive the action you try to fight the situation,” he said.
On September 16, 2022, Mahmoud claimed the defendant stabbed the deceased with a knife in her Janbulo Quarters Kano home.
However, the defendant pled not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor claims that the offence violates Penal Code Section 221(b).
Justice Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji directed the defence counsel to turn over their witness list and medical dictionary to the prosecution. He continued the defence and adjourned the case until April 6.
