Sanwo-Olu receives certificate of return

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday received his Certificate of Return for winning the March 18 governorship election in the State.

He received his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Lagos, Olusegun Agbaje in Yaba.

He is deputy, Dr. Kadri Hamzat and the members of the Lagos State House of Assembly who won their elections also received their Certificates of Return.

Speaking after receiving the certificate, Sanwo-Olu said he would run an inclusive government and would be willing to take advice from people.

He said he wants to remain the governor of all Lagosians, irrespective of faith, creed or tongue, saying that just as diversity propelled progress in all global cities around the world, Lagosians must purpose to make diversity birth prosperity for the state.

“In this vein, I am therefore seizing this opportunity to, once again, extend a hand of fellowship to all those who
contested against me, for the office of Governor of Lagos State. Let us join hands to build the Greater Lagos of our
dreams.

“For those dissatisfied by the outcome of the Governorship Election, there is the legitimate mechanism of redress offered by the judicial system.

“To all the good people of Lagos State, let us leave no room for hatred, incitement, or violence in our midst. The
true spirit of Lagos is law-abiding and welcoming of the diversity that defines us – the diversity of ethnicity, of
religion, of social class, of political affiliation,” he said.

The governor added that as count down to May 29, when his renewed mandate would commence, “let me assure you that together we are unlocking four more years of peace, progress, and prosperity for Lagos State. Four more years of massive infrastructure renewal and development, four more years of forward-looking policies in transportation, health, education, environment, agriculture, security, wealth creation, entertainment and culture, and youth development.

“Four more years of conquering whatever challenge life throws in our way. Together we have overcome pandemics,
economic downturns, arson, and other setbacks, emerging stronger and more determined to march into the future.

“Let us hold fast to all the lessons we have learnt and use them as valuable building blocks for what lies ahead of us. Let us also, as residents of Lagos State, make it four more years of responsible and law-abiding citizenship, and of
fulfilling all our civic obligations to Lagos State, including obeying the laws of the land, paying our taxes as and when
due, being our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers.”

Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, who also received his Certificate of Return, said he felt highly elated, saying that this presentation was a confirmation of his victory in the last poll.

“To what people of Lagos State should be expecting. I want to assure all Lagosians on behalf of my colleagues that we are ready to build on the last assembly’s success which is the 10th assembly.

“We will continue to make laws that will bring progress in Lagos and we will continue to protect the interests of Lagosians, that is the assurance we have with my colleagues. We are going to support the governor.

“We also have a president-elect that we have so much confidence in, he was former Governor of Lagos State and his track record is all over. I can also confirm that he will do very well and all the challenges in Lagos will be a thing of the past,” Obasa said.

Gbolahan Yishawu, who represents Eti-Osa II Constituency, after receiving his Certificate of Return, said during the campaign, he made a lot of promises to his  constituency.

“All the things I have been doing in the past for my constituency, I will do more to make it better, trainings, youth empowerment, which we have started already will be scaled up.

“APC has done well in this election, and our daddy , our mentor and the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. You look at his track record and you can see for yourself that Nigeria will be better with him being President.

“What he did in Lagos, we know he can replicate it. If we have ten other Lagos in Nigeria, you know what that will mean. We pray to God that there will be more Lagos all over Nigeria,” Yishawu stated.
