As usual, the Lagos chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has landed into crises barely three weeks after the governorship election in which its candidate, Olajide Adediran popularly known as “Jandor” came distant third.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu polled 762,134 votes to beat Rhodes-Vivour, who scored 312,329 votes in the election.
Jandor of the PDP came a distant third, polling 62,449 votes.
However, the Jandor had blamed lack of support from some PDP chieftains in the state for his loss in the governorship election.
Specifically, he had noted that the leader of PDP in the state, Bode George had before the election pledged support for the Labour Party candidate who he described as the son of his secondary school mate.
But the Bode George faction of PDP on Sunday issued strong warning to Jandor, warning his not to attribute his loss of the governorship election to lack of support of them.
The self-styled PDP Elders party also asked Jandor to dissolve his “Lagos for Lagos” group.
They also passed a unanimous vote of confidence on Chief Bode George, affirming his leadership of the party.
The warning was contained in a communique signed by 22 of the faction of the PDP after their meeting on Sunday.
Some of the elders who signed the communique included Chief Olabode George, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akere, Mrs Onikepo Oshodi, Dr. Charles Akitoye, among others
The Communiqué reads: “We hereby state that henceforth, Mr. Olajide Adediran, the PDP’s former governorship candidate in Lagos should desist from further denigrating leaders and elders of the party, contrary to the provision of section of Section 58 (I) (H) of the constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as amended in 2017.”
“That, we recognise the fact that as a new member of the party, Mr. Adediran may not be conversant with the cultures traditions and provisions of the party’s constitution, hence we admonish him to conduct himself in conformity with the cultures and norms of the party, failure which would leave the party with no other choice, than to invoke appropriate disciplinary measures against him.”
“That, the PDP does not condone groupings within its fold, hence, the group such as the Lagos for Lagos should be disbanded forthwith in accordance with the provisions of Section 58 (I) (J) of the constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as amended in 2017.”
“That, the elders of PDP in Lagos hereby passed a unanimous vote of confidence on Chief Olabode George, the Atona Oodua of Yorubaland, as the undisputed leader of the PDP in Lagos.”
