APC celebrates Adams Oshiomhole at 71

The Edo State chapter of the APC Friday evening inaugurates its Campaign Council for the 21 September governorship election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated its former National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, on his 71st birthday.

His birthday greetings were posted on the party’s official Twitter page on Tuesday.

“We celebrate the Party’s former National Chairman and Senator-elect, representing Edo-North senatorial district, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, on his 71st birthday. Our great party prays for Comrade Oshiomhole to have many more years and increased wisdom to continue his service to humanity”, the tweet read.

Oshiomhole was born on April 4, 1952, in Iyamho, Edo State, near Auchi. He was raised as a Muslim but converted to Christianity after meeting his late wife Clara, who died of cancer at the age of 54.

Following the restoration of democracy in 1999, he became president of the Nigerian Labour Congress and was prominent as the leader of a campaign of industrial action in Nigeria against high oil prices.

Under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, he negotiated a 25% wage increase for public sector workers. His reign as NLC President ended in 2007.

From 2008 to 2016, he was also the executive governor of Edo State.

INEC declared Adams Oshiomhole the winner of the 2023 Edo North Senatorial District election in February.
