The presidential candidate of African Democratic Congress in the 2019 Nigeria’s general election Kingsley Moghalu has reacted to ongoing criticisms of Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka by supporters of Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi on the social media.
Soyinka has come under attack on social media, especially Twitter over his recent comments on Obi and his running mate Datti Baba- Ahmed in his recent interviews with Channels Television and Arise TV.
Soyinka had pointed out the excesses of the Obidients movement, which he likened to fascism, a threat to the judiciary and totally unacceptable.
He said he had told Obi before the presidential election that if he lost the election, it would be his followers who lost it for him.
He also lambasted Baba-Ahmed for making inciting statements against the judiciary.
He also expressed similar views in his interview with Arise TV .
Reacting to the criticisms of Soyinka by the Obidients, Moghalu said the Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka is a principled fighter for justice not only in Nigeria, but around the world.
The former deputy governor of Central Bank f Nigeria also recalled how the literary giant endorsed his presidential ambition in 2019, describing it as a great honour in his life.
Moghalu said: “Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka is a principled fighter for justice in our country and around the world.
“He is a phenomenon that unlettered and uncultured people may not fully understand in an age of lazy social media in which many don’t read or think deep.
“His endorsement of my 2019 presidential candidacy in my short-lived but impactful foray into Nigerian electoral politics remains one of the greatest honors of my life.
“I view very dimly any criticism of him simply because he’s OBJECTIVE. He survived dictators. He will survive you.”
