Kogi West Women In Politics, an advocacy group in the All Progressives Congress, APC, has added its voice to the demand for power shift to the Senatorial district ahead of the primaries of the party for the state governorship election.

Speaking at a press conference in Lokoja on Thursday, the group urged the APC to cede its governorship ticket to Kogi West Senatorial District in the interest of equity and fairness.

The Convener of the group, Mrs Titi Omotola, who spoke at the press briefing therefore appealed to Governor Yahaya Bello and national leadership of the APC to support the age long desire of the Kogi West senatorial zone to occupy the state’s highest office.

The group noted that since its creation in 1991, Kogi East has ruled the state for 16 years, while at the expiration of Governor Bello’s second term, Kogi Central would have ruled the state for eight years, while western senatorial district has not had the opportunity to produce the produce governor for the state.

“In view of the heterogeneous nature of Kogi State, marginalisation of any of its parts by others should be eschewed. Far from speaking from an entitlement point of view, Kogi West Women in politics strongly believes that, to give a sense of belonging to every Kogite, Lugard House must be for every tribe and religion.

“We Kogi Women in Politics plead with the national leadership of APC to give favourable consideration to a Kogi West person emerging as candidate in the governorship election slated for 2023. We believe this will reinforce the party as a just and fair political party.

“We appeal to our brothers and sisters from Kogi East and Kogi Central to dispassionately look at our stand and support this call for power shift to Kogi West as that is the just and fair thing to do.

“Together, with mutual respect and understanding making the dream of a prosperous and United Kogi State a reality is achievable.”
