Four people have been killed and eight others wounded in a mass shooting at a bank in Louisville, Kentucky, United States.

The injured were transported to a hospital, and two police officers were shot, including one who is in critical condition.

Police said they believe the shooter at the Old National Bank, who also died at the scene, was a “lone gunman” and a previous bank employee. The shooter used an AR-15-style rifle, a federal law enforcement source told CNN.

Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey of the  Louisville Metro Police Department said at a news conference “We believe this is a lone gunman involved in this that did have a connection to the bank.

“We’re trying to establish what that connection was to the business, but it appears he was a previous employee.”

According the Daily News, Police said they were alerted to the incident on the 300 block of E. Main St. around 8:30 a.m., and that officers arrived at the scene within three minutes while the suspect was still firing.

The police said a shootout with the suspect followed, though the cops had not confirmed whether he was fatally shot by officers or he killed himself.

“This is a tragic event, but it was it was the heroic response of officers that made sure that no more people were more seriously injured than what happened,” Humphrey said.
