The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP OKon O Effiong has ordered the immediate arrest of the officers seen in a viral video assaulting innocent residents.

This follows the identification of the policemen shown in the viral video harassing and assaulting an unidentified man at a Elibrade junction, Emohua, Port Harcourt.

The CP, in a statement issued by the police command’s spokeswoman, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said as a defender of human rights, he assured members of the public, that the police officers would be investigated in line with extant rules underlying the conduct of police personnel; and appropriate sanctions meted accordingly.

He further assured the people of Rivers State of its unalloyed commitment to promoting the rule of law.

“People are enjoined to report cases of human rights abuse and infractions through the following numbers: 08039213071 and 08098880134,” he said.

A viral video on Monday saw a policeman slapping an innocent man repeatedly in Port Harcourt and forced him into a vehicle.
