Double tragedy: UNIPORT loses Director of Works, Ex -Vice Chancellor

Barely two days after the demise of its 5th Vice Chancellor, Emeritus Professor Nimi Briggs, the University of Port Harcourt has also lost its Director of Works and Services Engineer Frank Ogali to auto crash.

According to Sam Kpenu, the spokesperson for the university, Ogali died late Wednesday night in an auto crash at the Olobo Premier College while making a U-turn ofF the East-west road, close to the University’s main gate.

His remains have been deposited at the mortuary.

“Engr Ogali was a jolly good fellow and friend to all. Since he took over the affairs of the Works and Services department, there has been tremendous improvement in the quality of services rendered to the university,” Kpenu said.

Meanwhile, the University of Port Harcourt Alumni Association, Rivers State Chapter, has expressed shock over the death of the former VIce Chancellor Professor Nimi Briggs.

A statement jointly signed by Mr. Sam Woka and Dr. Christian Ojobah on behalf of the Board of Advisors and members of the Chapter, described the death of the late Emeritus Professor of Medicine as a collosal loss to the University community and the Nigerian educational sector at large.

“The late Emeritus Professor was an adopted member and a dear friend of the Rivers State Chapter who was always there to support and guide the Alumni Association over the years”.

“It is a huge shock and we cannot begin to quantify the immeasurable contribution Prof. Briggs had made in the development of the Nigerian educational sector and all who were lucky to have passed through the Unique University of Port Harcourt.”
