Just In: INEC voids declaration of Binani as winner of Adamawa gov. poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, moved in swift to arrest the confusion that trailed the Aisha Binani of All Progressives Congress, APC, the winner of the Adamawa governorship election on Sunday with the suspension of the collation of the results.

The Commission also rejected declaration of Binani as the winner of the election.

PM NEWS reported how the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Adamawa, Hudu Ari, on Sunday morning, declared Binani the winner of the election.

This was in spite of the fact that the Returning officer for the election had yesterday scheduled the conclusion of the compilation of the results for the supplementary election in which the incumbent Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the PDP for 11 am today.

However, INEC, in a statement on its twitter handle on Sunday declared the declaration of Binani as the winner of the election “null, void and of no effect”,

INEC also ordered suspension of the collation of the results while it summoned the REC, the Returning Officer and all others concerned in the controversies to Abuja.

INEC said, “The attention of the Commission has been drawn to a purported declaration of winner in the Adamawa Governorship election by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) even when the process has clearly not been concluded.

“The action of the REC is a usurpation of the power of the Returning Officer. It is null, void and of no effect. Consequently, the collation of results of the supplementary election is hereby suspended.

“The REC, Returning Officer and all involved are hereby invited to the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja immediately.
