The governor-elect in Kebbi, Dr Nasir Idris has said his administration would galvanise the education sector and give it a genuine and functional direction in the state.
Idris, the President of Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT said this in the speech of appreciation he delivered after he was declared the winner of the governorship election.
Idris, who is the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC polled 409,225 votes to defeat his closest rival, Maj. Gen. Aminu Bande (rtd) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 360,940 votes in the election.
Speaking after he was declared the newly elected governor of Kebbi State, Idris promised to revolutionise the education sector in Kebbi State, with equipment of the state’s schools with learning materials and facilities.
“We shall ensure that the state is no longer listed among the states placing last in West African Examination Council, National Examination Council and National Business and Technical Examinations Board’s examinations.
“Teachers will get their reward here on earth before they get it from God in the hereafter,’’ he said.
He also assured that the state would answer its name as the food basket of the nation and would create millionaire farmers.
“We have an agenda of complete rural transformation.
“We also worry about the security situation in the southern part of the state and we will do everything to ensure that our people sleep with their eyes closed.
“Different welfare policies and programmes shall be introduced for the betterment of our youths and women,’’ Idris said.
He urged his opponents at the election to join hands with his administration in his quest to make Kebbi greater.
“Elections are over now; what remains is the onerous task of building the state, and the task of building the state is a collective responsibility of all of us,’’ he stressed.
The governor-elect commended Gov. Atiku Bagudu for his commitment for a better state and his unflinching support for the success of the APC in Kebbi.
“We thank the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Malam Abubakar Malami.
“We also thank former Gov. Saidu Dakingari, as well as other members of the campaign council for their support in the success of the party in the state,’’ Idris said.
