Five docked for killing ASP Mathew Aniaguru in Lagos

Five suspects have been arraigned for killing one Mr Mathew Aniaguru, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), who was on official duty at Emuren Junction, Ikorodu Lagos State.

The prosecutor, Mr Good Friday told the court that the defendants committed the offences on April 6.

The defendants, Shakiru Shittu; 48, Kadir Shonoki; 38, Shadiku Adeola; 43, TaofeekA Aluko; 38 and Adekunle Onasanya; 37, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.

He said that the police boss, who was a Divisional Police Officer at Imota, received a distress call from one ASP Adamu Audu, that they were being attacked by some unknown gun men at Emuren Junction.

Friday said that the defendants shot and killed the officer. They collected his AK 47 rifle with ten rounds ammunition.

He said that the police later raided and arrested the defendants .

The prosecutor then urged the court to give the police 30 days to carry out further investigation.

He said that some of the defendants had made ‘confessional statements’ during interrogation.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Peter Nwaka, who did not take the pleas of the defendant ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

Nwaka adjourned the case until May 31 for mention.

A Sabo Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Friday remanded five men for allegedly killing a police officer in the state.
