Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has explained why he is not happy with the ongoing comparison of his administration with that of his predecessor, Kayode Fayemi.

Governor Oyebanji spoke at a stakeholders’ Forum in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of the state organised to mark his 200 days in office.

He spoke in reaction to claims by some commentators, especially on the social media, that he has outperformed his immediate predecessor.

But Oyebanji said he doesn’t feel good about such comparison as it is inappropriate and absolutely unfair.

This, the Governor said was because his administration is a continuation of that of Fayemi.

He therefore described such comparison as a waste of time as the ex-governor Fayemi remains his leader and his government was an offshoot of his administration.

“I want to appeal to people not to make a distinction from ex- governor Fayemi-led administration and mine. We are one and I said it again. We’re one.

“My administration is an offshoot of Fayemi’s administration. So, there’s no distinction between what he has done and what I am doing,” said Oyebanji.

He added that if Fayemi had remained in office, he would have been doing the same thing he is doing as governor now.

“If Oga were to still be governor, by now most the things I am doing is what he will be doing because this is something we’ve put down together in the developing plan, which is guiding what I am doing. So I appeal to our people particularly on social media.

“I don’t have control on what you say but I appeal to you to moderate your comments. Governor Fayemi is my leader and I will continue to respect him. He has done a lot for this state and still doing it and he needs your prayers for him to do more for us,” he said.

On his achievements, Oyebanji said he has been busy implementing his six-point developmental agenda towards ensuring sustainable socio-economic growth and development.

He listed his achievements to include payment of over N31bn on salary, gratuity and pension payments in the last 200 days, payment of N6.2 billion as subvention to state’s tertiary institutions and continuation of work on the state’s Independent Power Project started by the Fayemi-led administration.

He said when operational in July, the IPP will continue to give uninterrupted power supply to government offices, institutions and streetlights and bring an end to the humongous amount being spent on diesel.

Oyebanji added that his government has completed the Ado-Ilawe-Erinjiyan road, while works are ongoing on Ikole , Ado township roads, while other inter-city access roads across the state are enjoying attention to make them motorable.

“All the roads we are going to construct are ones that will bring prosperity and boost trading, farming and ease the movement of farm products to the market centres. We will be strategic by targeting our agricultural belt”.
