Anambra attack: Security forces rescue 2 abducted US consulate workers

Anambra Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement issued in Awka on Friday said that the two were rescued early Friday unhurt by joint security forces.
Security operatives in Anambra have rescued two workers of the United States Consulate Lagos declared missing in the attack which claimed the lives of seven of their colleagues in in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state last Tuesday.
Anambra Police Commissioner, Echeng Echeng had on Thursday declared that two of workers who are staff of USAID were missing after the deadly attack on the colleagues by yet to be identified gunmen in Ogbaru community.
However, spokesperson for the Anambra Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement issued in Awka on Friday said that the two were rescued early Friday unhurt by joint security forces.
The gunmen ambushed the convoy of the consulate officials on Tuesday, killed seven including police personnel, and abducted two.
The bodies of those killed were also set ablaze by the gunmen along Atani-Osamala road in Anambra.
Ikenga said the security forces have sustained security operation in the area.
The police spokesman said further details would be communicated to the public on the operation.
