In what amounted to a twist of fate, a young man who, a day before, celebrated his imminent departure abroad for further studies died the next day, the day he was supposed to travel.

Ever since the news broke, social media has been thrown into a state of shock and disbelief.

The young man, Ugochukwu Okpani took to Facebook on Thursday, 18 May to announce that he had less than 22 hours to travel abroad to study International Relations.

However, Okpani never woke up from sleep on Friday, 19 May, the day he was supposed to embark on his journey abroad in search of the golden fleece.

He was supposed to undergo a Master’s degree programme.

Okpani wrote, posting alongside it some amazing photos: “It’s a wrap, Blessed be God Forever, 22:00Hrs 2go
In Omnia Paratus, Put my name on that wall. MSc mode fully activated.🛩️✈️✈️🛩️#International_Relations.”

However, while the cause of death was not known at press time, many have been reacting to his untimely demise, expressing shock and disbelief.

Okpani’s Facebook profile shows he studied at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University and lived in Awka, Anambra State before his demise. He hailed from Afikpo in Ebonyi State.
