Though the 9th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA) is over, many top Nollywood actors and actresses flopped at the event and failed to win any award, even though they were nominated.
Below are the flopped Nollywood stars:
1. Funke Akindele:
The actress was nominated the ‘Best Actress in Comedy/TV Series’ with her role in ‘Battle on Buka Street’. She lost the award to Bimbo Ademoye, who won with her role in ‘Selina.’
She was also nominated for the Best Writer in Movies/TV Series in her script for ‘Battle on Buka Street.’ The award was won by Sola Dada in his written script for Anikulapo.
2. Mercy Johnson:
The actress was nominated for the ‘Best Actress in Comedy/TV Series’ for her role in ‘Battle on Buka Street’ and the ‘Passport,’ but the award was won by Ademoye.
3. Ini Edo and Queen Nwokoye:
The two actresses were nominated for the ‘Best actress in a Drama or TV Series.’ Ini Edo was nominated for her role in ‘Shanty Town’ while Nwokoye was nominated for her role in ‘Strained.’ They lost the award to Osas Ighodaro, who won with her role in ‘Man of God.’
4. Nkem Owoh:
He competed for the ‘Best Actor in a Comedy Drama, Movie or TV Series’ with his role in ‘Battle on Buka Street,’ but the award was won by Samuel Perry, known as ‘Broda Shaggi’ with his role in ‘Inside Life.’
5. Charles Inojie:
He also lost the ‘Best Actor in a Comedy Drama, Movie or TV Series’ to Broda Shaggi. He competed in the category with his role in ‘City Hustler.’
6. Chinedu Ikedieze:
The actor competed in the ‘Best Actor in a Comedy Drama, Movie or TV Series’ which Broda Shaggi won. He competed with his role in Aki & PawPaw.
7. Chidi Mokeme:
The actor competed for the ‘Best Actor in Drama, Movie or TV Series’ with his role in ‘Shanty Town,’ but the award was won by Tobi Bakre in his role in ‘Brotherhood.’
8. Femi Adebayo‘s role in ‘King of Thieves’ was not enough to earn him ‘Best Actor in Drama, Movie or TV Series’ award, which was scooped by Bakre.
9. Richard Mofe Damijo‘s role in ‘Four Four Forty Four’ could not win him the ‘Best Actor in Drama, Movie or TV Series’ award.
10. Yinka Quadri lost out in the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ award with his role in ‘Anikulapo.’ The award was won by Abdisattar Ahmed in his role in Gacal.
11. Taiwo Hassan‘s role in ‘Anikulapo’ could also not earn him the award of the ‘Best Supporting Actor.’
