Kunle Afolayan's Anikulapo wins 'Best Overall Movie' award at AMVCA

Nigerian epic fantasy film produced by Kunle Afolayan, has won the the ‘Best Overall Movie’ at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA).

The award is the most prestigious of the night and was sponsored by Amstel Malta.

Afolayan received the award at AMVCA, saying the crew were happy to have emerged the best and that they would be back next year for another award.

Anikulapo is a 2022 Nigerian epic fantasy film produced by Kunle Afolayan and distributed by Netflix.

Released on 30 September 2022, it stars Kunle Remi, Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale, Hakeem Kae-Kazim and Taiwo Hassan.

Others are Ropo Ewenla, Faithia Balogun, Kareem Adepoju, Eyiyemi Afolayan, Adebowale Adedayo, Oga Bello, Moji Olayiwola, Aisha Lawal, Dele Odule, Yinka Quadri and Ariyike Owolagba.

 The film was shot in Oyo State and Afolayan has described the work as a “Game of Thrones recreated in Nigeria but with a better representation of our culture (Yoruba culture).

Anikulapo was produced and shot by Jonathan Kovel at the recently launched KAP resort in a village in Oyo State, it was produced and shot on a 40 acres (16 ha) with all infrastructure and buildings all built from scratch to suit the production while also intending to make it a film village.

The production also featured Afolayan’s daughter, Eyiyemi Afolayan.
