Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) has urged the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to seek debt forgiveness for the country when he assumes office.

The founder of the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), stated this during the weekend while fielding questions from journalists after a lecture titled: “Smart Infrastructure: Catalyst for Sustainable Development held at the Alfa Belgore Hall of the university by Prof Bamidele Adebisi of the University of Manchester.

Babalola advised Tinubu to take a page from the textbook of former president, Olusegun Obasanjo who spent two-three years of his administration begging for debt forgiveness for the nation.

He argued that Nigeria’s naira is worthless and it would be a waste of time to seek for investors.

According to him, Nigeria is best described as the worst debtor, adding that “we owe trillions of dollars and we are still borrowing more even as the present administration has few days to go.

“We learnt that the in-coming president has gone to look for those who will invest here. Our naira is worthless, seek for debt forgiveness.
