Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has congratulated Prof. Abdur-Razaq Alaro on his winning the ‘most intellectual impact’ award from the International Islamic University of Madina, Saudi Arabia.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Rafiu Ajakaye, on Thursday in Ilorin.
The statement quoted the governor saying that the award reasserts the place of Alaro, an indigene of Kwara, as a global leader in Islamic law and a public intellectual who continues to impact his community with his contributions to knowledge.
“The Government and people of Kwara State are proud to identify with the sterling achievements of Professor Alaro.
“We share in the joy and honour that this recognition brings to him and his family, especially because of the inspiration such a feat gives to younger generations.
“We pray Allah to grant him more success in the coming years and good health to live his dreams to the fullest.
“The University of Madinah on Wednesday night awarded him the best alumnus of all time with the most intellectual impact,” it said.
“Alaro was honoured alongside other outstanding alumni of the school who have made huge contributions to knowledge, such as Dr Hamid Choi Yong Kil, the first Korean Muslim to translate the Qur’an and Sahih Al-Bukhari into the Korean language.
“Others were Dr Muhammad Hidayat Nur Wahid, former Speaker of Indonesia People’s Consultative Assembly; and Prof. Massire Doukoure who specialises in computational linguistics at Yobe State University.
“Prof. Alaro, who teaches at the University of Ilorin, is a recipient of the Kwara State Lifetime Achievement Award that was held in December 2022”, the statement read in part.
