Aberdeen, WA – Jonathan Daniel Ross, a dedicated basketball player at Grays Harbor College, has been confronted with an unforeseen obstacle that has derailed his long-held basketball dreams. In an exclusive interview, Ross opens up about his family background, the sacrifices he has made, and the challenges he faces due to an unknown nerve system problem.
Hailing from a Christian household in Houston, Texas, Ross’s upbringing revolved around church activities and community involvement. Despite battling severe anxiety around people, he managed to form meaningful connections and discovered his passion for basketball through church summer leagues.
Ross’s journey took a difficult turn when he committed to Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, Washington. During his third week of practices, he encountered a series of concussions that forced him to sit out an entire year and be placed on the Red-Shirt list. Initially disheartened, Ross returned home to Texas with no plans of resuming his basketball career. However, the team faced a shortage of players, and Ross, driven by a sense of responsibility, decided to give it a second chance.
The determined athlete embarked on a journey back to Washington, where he finally had the opportunity to play his first college season. However, his progress was once again hampered by program issues, limiting him to only eight games. As if these setbacks weren’t enough, Ross was then struck by an ankle injury, possibly a small tear, which required medical attention.
The most devastating blow came in early 2023 when Ross developed a mysterious nerve system issue. This condition hampers his ability to play basketball, engage in workouts, and even perform routine activities that involve raising his body temperature. Ross describes the agonizing experience of experiencing a piercing itching sensation that engulfs his entire body, causing him to contort and squeeze his muscles to alleviate the pain. Despite seeking medical assistance from regular doctors, dermatologists, and allergy clinics, the exact cause of his condition remains elusive. Ross’s doctor is currently conducting investigations to unravel the unique and baffling nature of his ailment.
The basketball player, who has been through one hardship after another, expresses his frustration at being unable to pursue his dreams or engage in daily activities. Regrettably, Ross announces that he is unlikely to return to Grays Harbor College for basketball in the fall of 2023.
